The 1st Training School of the LUCES COST Action, «How to Develop a Sensor? Academic Approaches vs. Industrial Interests,» took place from September 18th to 20th, 2024, at RPTU Kaiserslautern, Germany. The event gathered 41 young researchers (37 PhD students and 4 postdocs) from 10 countries, offering them an overview of sensor development, with insights from both academic and industrial experts.

Over three days, participants engaged with a diverse program, including 7 keynote lectures, 19 oral communications, and 17 poster presentations. Three prizes were awarded for the best contributions:

  • 1st – Mr Abdur Rehman Anwar, JSI, Slovenia
  • 2nd – Dr Ariadna Lazaro, KIT, Germany
  • 2nd – Mr André Seco, FCT Nova, Portugal

And three prizes were awarded for the best posters:

  • 1st prize – Ms Vahideh Mahram, KIT, Germany
  • 2nd prize – Ms Emily Andreato, UAM, Spain
  • 2nd prize – Ms Julie Janssens, ULB, Belgium

The training school not only focused on the technical aspects of sensor development but also included a dedicated session on entrepreneurship, provided by the RPTU start-up office, to equip participants with practical tools for bringing their innovations to market. This combination of scientific excellence and practical training helped to strengthen collaborations within the LUCES COST Action and inspired new opportunities for future research and innovation.
